Is a random white bird OUTSIDE the home a good or bad omen?

For the past 2 days now, we've seen a random large white bird (it hasn't come close enough for us to see what kind it is) flying over the open field behind our house (we live a bit out in the country). I've heard sides of the argument claiming both black and white birds denoting impending death, so this worries me. Does a white bird flying around outside like that that we've never seen before necessarily mean that somebody's going to die?
