8 1/2 years old and period!?!?!?!?

Ok. my little sister (mackenzie) is 8 1/2 years old & she got her period yesterday?!?!? Is this abnormal or what?!?! I haven't even got mine yet and im 13! i can't get any advice any where. can someone help mii.............plzz
