Why do some conservatives claim to be rational thinkers while others are superstitious?

Like some conservatives are cultural thinkers that believe in outrageous standards with no rational thought. While other conservatives tell liberals that they are irrational and should start thinking rationally like them. Are there 2 groups of conservatives?
